CSR and Telechips partner on design for Wi-Fi photo frame with internet radio Print E-mail
CAMBRIDGE, England  January 22 2008 -- CSR today announced that Telechips Wi-Fi enabled digital photo frame platform features wireless connectivity using CSRs UniFi single-chip Wi-Fi technology. UniFi will provide users with the capability to send their favourite photos directly to an 8-inch LCD display and also to connect via Wi-Fi access points to provide wireless streaming of internet radio. The platform will drastically reduce the time to market for ODMs and will be available by the end of January 2008.

csr_pem4795_red.jpg Based around CSRs UniFi and the TCC8300 media processor from Telechips, the platform runs on the most common operating system for multimedia devices, making it easy for customers to integrate and use. CSRs UniFi is the lowest power Wi-Fi solution in the market and features an exceptionally small chip scale package (CSP) that measures just 5.8 x 6.4mm. The chip architecture, combined with the lack of external components required, ensures that CSRs UniFi provides a low bill of materials and superior Wi-Fi performance.

Telechips platform will use CSRs UniFi to allow users to stream internet radio via Wi-Fi and supports music subscription services such as Rhapsody, ShoutCast, WM Audio and vTuner, providing access to thousands of songs via live broadcast or on demand access. Users will be able to display images trapped on their memory card or communicate via Wi-Fi with Flickr and other photo sharing websites such as Picasa to view online photo albums. The platform will also support RSS feeds from sources including Yahoo, MSN, CNN, BBC as well as displaying currency rates and traffic information.

Tracy Hopkins, Vice President of CSRs Consumer Business Unit, commented, Wi-Fi enabled digital photo frames based on this platform use CSRs UniFi technology to deliver the highest performance and functionality not only for the photo frame function but also to provide high quality streaming internet radio. Hopkins continued, It is clear that the market for Wi-Fi enabled devices is growing rapidly and our collaboration with Telechips will enable ODMs to deliver high quality multi functional devices in minimal time to market.

Minho Seo, CEO of Telechips, commented, Increased functionality remains a key differentiator for many of our customers and wireless connectivity is becoming a must have. Our partnership with CSR has allowed us to develop a platform that delivers a best in class Wi-Fi connection that will allow our customers to create extremely desirable products quickly and at a lower cost.
