in Turkey, launched its mobile signature service on 20 February 2007. Since that day, there had been outstanding growth in services and number of users.

User uptake has been strong based on the number of different service providers supporting mobile signatures and the different applications available. Turkcell launched the service with 5 banks committed to using mobile signatures for their online banking security. By the end of 2007, 12 banks use mobile signatures: Akbank, Bank Asya, Denizbank, Garanti, HSBC, Kuveyt Turk, TEB, Turkiye Finans, Turkiye Is Bankasi, Finansbank, Sekerbank and Yapi Kredi.

Consumers use mobile signatures for digitally signing loan applications, online bank authentication, transaction confirmation, mBanking and cardless ATM usage.

In addition to banks, 2 brokerages are using mobile signatures for confirming trades: Ak Yatirim and Finans Invest; 2 municipalities (Fatih and Sisli) and 3 e-government services (Customs, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Justice) use mobile signatures for user authentication and digital form signing.

According to Dr. Deniz Tuncalp, Mobile Signature Unit Manager at Turkcell, the 'Mobilimza' mobile signature service has now clocked over five hundred thousand signature requests from Turkcell's subscriber base.

Nationwide marketing campaigns feature full-page ads in magazines; and financial instutions advertise their mobile signature service in daily newspapers. Garanti bank, Turkiye Is Bankasi and Turkcell have launched commercials featuring mobile signatures and mobile banking services. Online banking marketing campaigns now include offers of free air-time when signing up for a new bank account and Turkcell's mobile signature service.

Turkcell's mobile signature service based on Valimo technology has received three awards: the Active Academy Jury Special award during the Active ACADEMY 5th International Finance Summit held in December 2007 in Istanbul, the Turkish Electronics Industrialists' Association's Product Innovation Award and Gemalto's Most Innovative GSM Service 2007 award.
