SAN DIEGO, Calif.
June 16, 2008 -- Qualcomm
Incorporated, a leading provider of business- to-
business
wireless enterprise applications and services, today announced that the
company is transitioning to delivering the GlobalTRACS® Suite for fleet
management via original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and dealers
only. By refocusing efforts on distribution, development and support of
telematics through channel alliances with OEMs and dealers, Qualcomm is
better positioned to serve the future needs of the construction
equipment industry.
With this new model in place, more end-users will be able to access the
benefits of telematics data and fleet management services through an
expanded network of OEM and dealer resellers. The decision to change
direction was made with strong consideration as to the long-term best
interests of existing customers of GlobalTRACS products in the
industry. Customers that currently have a direct purchasing
relationship with Qualcomm for GlobalTRACS products may elect to
continue to purchase directly from Qualcomm or begin to purchase
through a Qualcomm channel partner OEM or dealer. By purchasing through
a dealer, customers will benefit from the dealer's extended local
support for installations, troubleshooting, repair and replace
services. Additionally, through these strategic relationships with
OEMs, Qualcomm will be able to develop and deliver a more comprehensive
solution with enhanced features and the ability to support the
increasingly complex needs of the construction equipment industry.
“The increased focus on channel distribution can create more interest
for telematics products by leveraging the direct relationships dealers
and OEMs have with customers in the industry,” said Bud Sims, director
of business development for Qualcomm Enterprise Services. “We believe
there is a significant opportunity to increase adoption of wireless
technology by enabling dealers and OEMs to provide a one-stop shopping
experience for customers for all of their equipment information needs.”
