London, UK  July 23, 2008 -- Orange UK today announces the appointment of Spencer McHugh to

Head of Brand Communications, a newly created role in the company designed to integrate media buying, advertising and digital marketing.

The new role has been developed following the recent restructure by Orange’s chief Tom Alexander which is focused on serving the customer better. Spencer will report into Justin Billingsley, Orange UK’s brand director responsible for the newly designed marketing team which incorporates retail, home, business services and brand departments.

Spencer has led the charge on some of the most successful and high profile digital brand campaigns such as the Unlimited Website and the Pay As You Go Animals Balloon race which have regularly been awarded for creative and technical innovation.

One of Spencer’s first tasks is to appoint a new media planning and buying agency with Ian Smith, former Head of Media which will have a greater focus on this integrated approach. He will also deliver new integrated communication campaigns across all media to build momentum on the recently launched ‘I Am’ brand campaign which saw the introduction of ‘Search for I Am’ on all brand communications to drive traffic and interaction with the dedicated brand site http://www.i-am-everyone.co.uk.

“Spencer has been fundamental to the success of our innovative digital marketing campaigns and online media presence” commented Justin Billingsley, Orange UK’s brand director. “I look forward to him taking up his new role to deliver top class integrated brand communications which will continue to strengthen the brand and give us differentiation in the marketplace.”

The newly created role will see Spencer replace former Head of Media Ian Smith - who will continue to run the media pitch with Spencer, but will be taking a new role as Head of Sponsorship whilst Hattie Magee is on maternity leave - and former Head of Advertising Rachel Macbeth who is moving to another role outside the company.
