network
solutions and services, and Ubidyne, a leader in digital radio
technology for the wireless industry, have agreed on cooperation to
enhance NSN’s market-leading Flexi Base Station solution with Ubidyne’s
innovative active antenna product.
The active antenna technology
integrates the functionality of active radio frequency parts of a base
station and a passive antenna into one enclosure. It is connected to
Nokia Siemens Networks’ Flexi base station running OBSAI standard
interface.
The innovative solution based on a platform capable of
supporting multiple standards (GSM/WCDMA/LTE/WiMAX) protects operator
investment and reduces OPEX by decreasing installation, site rental,
maintenance and energy costs. Moreover, reduction of power consumption
and visible base station equipment benefit living environment
ecologically and visually.
“Nokia Siemens Networks is a
forerunner in providing innovative solutions that bring tangible
benefits to operators in form of reduced OPEX and CAPEX and increased
performance. Along with this, Ubidyne’s innovative technology will add
value to our customers as part of our leading Flexi Base Station
solution including future features like beamforming. With this
innovation we are moving towards future base station concepts, in which
active antennas are one architecture option” said Tommi Uitto, Head of
WCDMA Product Management, Nokia Siemens Networks.
“We believe our
innovative active antenna product and Nokia Siemens Networks Flexi Base
Station make a strong match that will meet the needs of operators
seeking to invest to the future and gain immediate benefits through
reduced costs.” said Ken Hawk, CEO of Ubidyne.
The solution is
targeted to operators rolling out new 3G or LTE (Long Term Evolution)
networks or enhancing their existing 3G networks, and those planning to
gradually phase out GSM to make space for WCDMA/LTE.
Ubidyne
is a global leader in digital antenna embedded radio technology for
wireless communications. Ubidyne’s standards-agnostic micro-radio
technology is integrated with wireless antennas and revolutionizes the
economics of mobile communications. These integrated active antenna
systems are compatible with current and next generation mobile
standards. They eliminate the need for coaxial feeder cables, remote
electrical tilt and additional amplifiers on antenna towers and masts.
