Panasonic Highlights Mobile Computing Innovations at IDF San Francisco Print E-mail
SECAUCUS, N.J.  Aug. 19, 2008 -- Panasonic Computer Solutions Company, manufacturer of

durable, reliable Panasonic Toughbook® mobile computers, will highlight its proven Intel processor-based reliable mobile computers, including innovative form factors such as the ultra mobile rugged Toughbook® U1 UMPC, utilizing the low power Intel Atom processor at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) held in San Francisco, California. panasonic_u1_red.jpg

The Toughbook U1 is the industrys first ultra mobile rugged PC to integrate the new low power Intel® Atom processor. With the introduction of the extremely portable Toughbook U1, remote workers are able to connect to critical information and applications in real time, improving organizational efficiency, increasing information accuracy, and enabling field-based decision-making. The U1 reinvents handheld computing by integrating robust features previously only available on a full size Toughbook PC in a UMPC form factor that can be used anywhere.

In addition to its existing line of reliable rugged and business-rugged computers for mission-critical users who work in a range of environments, Panasonic will also exhibit a prototype of an Atom-based mobile clinical assistant (MCA) device it currently has under development. The fully-rugged and sealed MCA is designed with the healthcare user in mind, combining light weight with long battery life, integrated wireless connectivity and an integrated handle.

We are very pleased that Panasonic has used Intels MCA reference design and Intel Atom processor to develop a new product to meet the needs of healthcare professionals, said Louis Burns, vice president and general manager, Intels Digital Health Group.

As Intel has continued to push the frontier of mobile computing by reconciling the traditionally competing goals of more power and longer battery life, Panasonic has continued to develop reliable devices that take into account the environments in which end users work, said Kyp Walls, director, product management, Panasonic Computer Solutions Company. The bottom line is that mobility requires durability and reliable connectivity. Working closely with our customers, Panasonic continues to develop products that are real-world tested to deliver on the promise of mobility by enabling users to have confidence that their devices will help them get the job donewhere they need to, when they need to.
