HANOVER, Germany Sept. 24, 2008 -- Qualcomm Enterprise Services
Europe BV, a wholly owned
subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated and a leading provider of business-to-business wireless
enterprise applications and services, today announced the introduction
of new features and services for its OmniExpress™ mobile communications
solution. The enhanced functionality delivers improved, near real-time
vehicle monitoring and management of loads and drivers. The OmniExpress
embedded device and the new user-friendly programmable touchscreen
display contribute to a more efficient user experience.
Qualcomm's OmniExpress solution is now available with two different
hardware configurations, ensuring that the specific needs of a wide
variety of fleet customers are met. Customers may purchase the embedded
vehicle hardware to better manage driver and vehicle performance.
OmniExpress enables fleets to track their mobile assets, manage and
report on driver hours of service, and retrieve engine and other
vehicle data from the FMS CAN-Bus. With the addition of the new
programmable display unit, the OmniExpress solution also enables fleet
dispatchers and drivers to communicate via text messages and electronic
forms in order to manage trip status and workflow, further improve
driver and vehicle performance, enhance safety, reduce operational
costs, and improve business planning and decision making.
The Qualcomm in-cab display unit is compact, ergonomically designed,
and provides the driver with a crisp and clear user experience through
the use of its color touchscreen. The primary services delivered via
the in-cab display are two-way text messaging, driver and working hours
tracking and alerts, and trip status reporting. The in-cab display also
offers a driver-focused dashboard that displays time-critical and
operation-critical information in an easy-to-read, graphical manner. An
optional DriverCard download capability delivers tacho driver card
details to back office personnel. The in-cab display unit also has the
option to deliver comprehensive turn-by-turn navigation to the driver.
The OmniExpress solution turns vehicle and driver data into actionable
information that can be used to improve efficiency, reduce expenses and
boost performance. The enhanced functionality can help optimize
planning related to routes, drivers and vehicles to improve the
effectiveness of driver coaching and enhance vehicle maintenance and
business operations.
OmniExpress services are available via Qualcomm's FleetVisor™ Web
Portal, allowing users to access and manage data and information
concerning all Qualcomm transportation services, at all times, and from
any location through a single user interface and database.
OmniExpress features and services will be demonstrated live for the
first time on 24 September at the 62nd IAA Commercial Vehicles show in
Hanover, Germany, and throughout the entire conference, 25 September-2
October 2008.
