CHELMSFORD, Mass. Sept. 29, 2008 -- Reva Systems, a leading RFID network
infrastructure provider,
today announced that Correos, the national postal
service of Spain, has deployed Reva's TAP appliances to enable RFID
operations at an additional 37 mail processing centers. The implementation
was designed and managed by Aida Centre, a systems integrator headquartered
in Spain, who was instrumental in helping Correos define the production
architecture and ultimately deploy the Reva-based production solution.
Correos is using RFID to track mail tagged with UHF RFID labels in order to
monitor and manage mail delivery service nationwide. At each processing
depot, dock doors equipped with RFID portals capture data as letters and
parcels move in and out of the facility. Reva TAPs installed at each site
control the portal readers and process the RFID tag data for location
accuracy, and then deliver the relevant tag data to Correos' enterprise
backend systems. According to Joan Pons, managing director at the solution
provider company AIDA Centre, "The Reva TAP is easy to configure and
performs reliably in the challenging environment in which Correos
operates."
"Each day thousands of pieces of tagged mail are present in the Correos'
postal system. When tagged mail enters and exits the RFID-enabled depots,
the RFID tags are automatically captured and processed by the Reva TAPs at
each location," said Correos' organizational deputy manager Regina
Defarges. "Reva Systems provides us with a reliable platform to track the
complex movement of tagged mail in real time through our network of depots,
enabling us to improve the overall quality of the mail service for millions
of customers."
"Reva Systems is seeing increased interest in UHF RFID from Postal Services
around the world. The Correos deployment is just one of several Postal
projects we are currently working on. Over the next few years I expect UHF
RFID to become a critical tool for the accurate, efficient, and secure
operations of worldwide mail and parcel services," said Ashley Stephenson,
chairman of Reva Systems. "With a Reva Systems RFID infrastructure in
place, I believe Correos is well positioned to leverage innovative
applications of RFID in postal operations that deliver further operational
benefits."
