CHICAGO, Ill. Oct. 1, 2008 -- Sequans Communications, a leading WiMAX chipmaker, announced today
that
Mobile WiMAX operator Scartel has chosen Sequans’
Mobile WiMAX technology for its recently announced network deployment in
Russia. Scartel, which launched last year when it gained 2.5 GHz
spectrum licenses across Russia has already installed 150 Mobile WiMAX
base stations in Moscow and 80 in St. Petersburg and expects to have
1000 installed by the end of the year. The Scartel Mobile WiMAX network,
operating under service name Yota, will be the largest network in Russia
and one of the largest in the world.
Leading ODMs are manufacturing end user devices based on Sequans’
chips that Scartel will offer to its Mobile WiMAX customers. These
include a USB dongle, an ExpressCard, a desktop CPE and a smartphone.
The devices are based on Sequans award-winning SQN1130 SOC for Mobile
WiMAX mobile stations, a solution that provides industry-leading high
throughput with low power consumption, the two most important
capabilities for truly useful Mobile WiMAX devices.
