EDISON, NJ Nov. 17, 2008 -- Mformation® Technologies Inc., a market leader in advanced mobile
device management (MDM) software, today announced that UQ Communications has selected the MFORMATION SERVICE MANAGER™ to provide seamless device management capabilities for new WiMAX-capable devices as part of the rollout of its WiMAX network. The UQ Communications venture was established with KDDI Corporation, Intel Capital Corp., East Japan Railway Company, KYOCERA Corporation, Daiwa Securities Group Inc. and The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ Ltd.
Advanced device management ensures that WiMAX-capable devices can be remotely activated and provisioned irrespective of their source, ensuring they work seamlessly and deliver an enhanced mobile Internet experience. “Advanced device management is fundamental to ensuring that our WiMAX services work seamlessly and provide a great user experience,” said Toshikazu Yokai, General Manager, Network Technology Department of UQ Communications. “The ability to remotely activate, manage and support any WiMAX device — regardless of where it is purchased — will create a compelling proposition for users and a truly open mobile marketplace, allowing customers to purchase their own devices and activate them where, when and however they choose.”
WiMAX will deliver a significant boost to the mobile Internet, allowing users to access advanced data applications and personal content from anywhere in the WiMAX coverage area, on any WiMAX-enabled device at broadband speed.
With support for more than 1,400 devices across any mobile network type, Mformation has expertise in managing different classes of mobile devices. Mformation’s integrated MDM platform is continually evolving to support new network types, devices and value-added services.
“With our deep knowledge of the Japanese marketplace, we look forward to ensuring that the advanced Mformation solution is integrated to support UQ’s complex service environment,” said Junichi Maruta, General Manager, Telecom Systems Planning Division of CTC. CTC is a leading system integrator in Japan and is undertaking the systems integration role for this programme.
“Working with UQ on this very important mobile broadband initiative is great validation of the power of our comprehensive MDM platform,” said Mark Edwards, CEO for Mformation. “UQ Communications had very demanding requirements; we have consistently demonstrated our ability to support these requirements as UQ Communications moves forward with its aggressive plans for rollout of WiMAX-based services. We look forward to supporting UQ on this important initiative.”
