DUBLIN, Calif. Jan. 19, 2009 -- Sybase®, Inc., the enterprise software and services company
exclusively focused on managing and mobilizing information, today
announced that in a recent report, Worldwide Mobile Middleware
2008-2012 Forecast and 2007 Vendor Shares (IDC # 215391, December
2008), leading IT market research advisory firm IDC recognized Sybase
iAnywhere as a top mobile middleware market leader for the sixth
consecutive year. The mobile middleware market grew to $775.7 million
in 2007, up from $666.9 million in 2006, resulting in growth of 16.3%.
IDC currently forecasts this market to increase to $1.6 billion in
2012, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15.2% from
2007-2012.
“The strategic, proven importance of mobility in the enterprise
combined with the tremendous technical advancements put enterprise
mobility in a good position to overcome this economic downturn,” said
Stephen Drake, Program Vice President for Mobility & Telecom
research, IDC. “Mobile middleware offerings that include components for
application enablement, mobile email, mobile device management, and
mobile security will be in the best position to fulfill pent up
customer demand. As numerous mobile middleware players increasingly
focus on their own device platforms, the providers with the strongest
heterogeneous OS and device support, including iPhone and Google
Android, will be in the best position to support the many organizations
working outside a single environment.”
IDC defines mobile middleware as “a software platform that includes
server and/or client software that either extends the reach of existing
IP or other mission-critical applications (including groupware,
messaging, customer relationship management [CRM], sales force
automation [SFA], enterprise resource planning [ERP], host, or other
applications) or offers the ability to develop new applications for
mobile users leveraging a variety of wireless devices, including
converged mobile devices (CMDs), ruggedized devices, and mobile phones.
Mobile middleware may include the platform, front-end applications, and
development tools as sold in a single offering. Mobile middleware
software offerings may also be offered as a hosted service.”
“This recognition by IDC combined with additional leadership
positions we’ve secured in the mobile enterprise application platform,
mobile device management, and enterprise wireless email market
segments, demonstrate strong momentum around our Unwired Enterprise
initiative,” said Terry Stepien, president, Sybase iAnywhere. “We have
been in the forefront of providing customers with strategic mobility
direction and implementations. In this capacity, we have seen the
industry mature by organizations moving from an individual project and
application-centric approach to a broader enterprise-wide platform
approach based on growing demand of rolling out key applications to a
solid base of wireless devices.”
