LITTLETON, Mass. June 22, 2009 -- WaveMark, Inc., a leading provider of real-time inventory
management (RTIM)
solutions for high value medical products, today announced its clinical
inventory management solution, WaveMark CIMS™, has been selected by
Tufts Medical Center, Boston, MA, to manage the hospital’s high value,
specialty inventory. Tufts will use WaveMark’s RTIM technology to track
physician preference items in its world-renowned Adult and Pediatric
Cath, EP, and Interventional Radiology departments.
Tufts Medical Center is a world-class academic medical center offering
outstanding patient care to both adults and children, teaching
generations of future physicians the most advanced medical science and
breaking new ground with ongoing, innovative research. As the oldest
permanent medical facility in New England and one of the first in the
nation, the 451-bed Medical Center is the principal teaching hospital
for Tufts University School of Medicine, where all full-time Medical
Center physicians hold faculty appointments.
After an extensive review of other solutions, the Cardiac Program at
Tufts, considered among the best in the United States, will use
WaveMark’s RFID-enabled inventory management solution, WaveMark CIMS. The solution will track nearly 5,000 products in their
Interventional Radiology, Adult and Pediatric Cath Labs, and EP Lab,
providing a new level of product visibility in these fast-paced
specialty suites. Tufts has chosen WaveMark based on the accuracy of its
technology and its proven success in optimizing inventory levels,
improving patient safety, and streamlining clinical workflow.
“Choosing WaveMark allowed us to address a number of challenges at
Tufts. We needed to reduce inventory levels in all areas by at least 20%
in order to reallocate those resources to other critical needs. In
addition, we wanted to trim the operating budget and reduce write-offs,
without adversely impacting patient safety and clinical workflow,” said
Steve Cashton, Director, Supply Chain Management at Tufts. “WaveMark
will enable us to meet these goals and give us a strong return on
investment. By taking advantage of WaveMark CIMS solution we are able to
achieve our financial, operational and clinical objectives with a single
system,” continued Cashton.
About WaveMark CIMS
WaveMark CIMS uses RFID cabinets and Point of Service readers to collect
information that enables real-time inventory management. The use of RFID in the process ensures
accuracy and timeliness of information captured, with no time-consuming
manual processes required. This streamlined workflow enables clinicians
to spend more time on patient care and less time manually tracking
inventory and product usage. With WaveMark CIMS, hospitals achieve
optimized inventory levels, better management of product expirations and
recalls, and improved charge capture.
“As one of the premier healthcare providers in the country, we are
honored to be part of Tufts’ commitment to contain costs, while
improving care,” said John Wass, CEO of WaveMark. “Their understanding
of the value of WaveMark’s use of RFID and network technology will
provide scores of benefits and savings as they roll out the solution in
their high volume specialty labs. WaveMark continues to be the solution
of choice for those healthcare providers serious about cost containment,
patient safety and regulatory compliance. Tufts is, again, leading the
way in providing the best possible care,” added Wass.
