Graduated from the Technical University of Vienna, Teufner started his career with Alcatel Austria in 1993 at the System & Software Development Department. In April 1999 he took over sales leadership for Broadband & Data network. Three years later, Teufner was appointed as director of Technical Sales and later became Vice-President Broadband and Data network for Central and Eastern Europe. Since January 2008 Teufner has been Vice-President of Technical Sales for the CCSE (CIS, Central & South East Europe) region.

In the board of directors of Alcatel-Lucent Austria, Erwin Teufner succeeds Oliver Schmerold who has been appointed Vice-President, Vertical Markets Services Division of Alcatel-Lucent worldwide.
