MXI Security Gets Mobile Data Security Under the Thumb Print E-mail
London, UK – April 24th, 2007 – MXI Security™ today announces the UK availability of its
Remote ACCESS™ solution that is technically interoperable with RSA SecurID® two-factor
authentication technology available from RSA, The Security Division of EMC (NYSE: EMC). MXI Security is first-to-market with a FIPS 140-2 Level-2 certified, portable, driverless and
fully-automated software solution that helps enterprises protect data on the move and
validate remote network access.
MXI Security devices are deployed to ensure the integrity of confidential and commerciallysensitive
data in mobile environments, and to verify user identity for remote network access.
The FIPS-certified flash-based Stealth MXP™ offers up to 4GB of storage space encrypted
to 256-bit AES standards, and protects data on the move via three-factor authentication –
biometric access control, a fingerprint, and authenticated ownership of the physical device
itself.
Stealth MXP and the hard drive-based Outbacker MXP, offering up to 80GB of encrypted
mass storage, are driverless devices that function on any PC with a USB port running
Microsoft ® Windows ® Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000 or Embedded XP. Since the
devices feature on-board processing for hardware-based AES 256 encryption, Stealth MXP
and Outbacker MXP are zero-footprint drives that leave no trace on host machines.
In addition to the potentially catastrophic consequences from the loss of mobile data
devices, digital footprints left behind on host machines by employees accessing corporate
networks remotely can lead to security being compromised.
Dr. Daniel Walsh, MXI Security Regional Director for EMEA says: “MXI Security solutions
provide enhanced security in the field by eliminating any digital footprints on host PCs, and
because we do not require users to take any special steps to secure data. Unlocking and
locking a device is as simple as swiping a finger and security is maximized since Stealth
MXP and Outbacker MXP units are automatically locked once they are disconnected from a
USB slot or when the host computer is rebooted.
“One of the biggest challenges with mobile security is persuading field users to actually take
precautions to ensure that their data is secured,” adds Dr. Walsh. “One of the single biggest
weaknesses in any mobile data security policy is requiring users to actively secure their data
– because people forget, don’t care, or lose devices when they are in an unlocked state.”
The highly-portable Stealth MXP and Outbacker MXP are backed by MXI Security’s
ACCESS Enterprise software suite, which simplifies the speedy rollout of secure portable
storage devices across an organization, and provides the ability to fully control security
policies, deployment and field usage of secure storage devices.
Secure devices are bound to individual users through hardware-based strong biometric
and/or password authentication adding another layer of security to protect the RSA SecurID
software authenticator. This helps to ensure that even if a device is lost or stolen,
unauthorized access to the stored data is not possible.
“Our strategic partnership with MXI Security helps to accelerate RSA’s initiative to enable
secure access to information – whether by customers, partners or employees” said Toffer
Winslow, Vice President, Product Management and Product Marketing at RSA, The Security
Division of EMC. “MXI’s Remote ACCESS solution fosters ubiquitous stronger
authentication by embedding the industry-leading RSA SecurID algorithm into secure and
portable USB-based devices like MXI’s Stealth and Outbacker MXP product lines. This
strategic partnership also enables RSA to offer greatly-expanded deployment options and
cost-savings opportunities to accelerate business objectives as enterprises and consumers
can confidently leverage a single device to support additional security capabilities.”
MXI Security is a member of the RSA SecurID Ready for Authenticators Partner Program,
having integrated RSA SecurID technology into its Stealth MXP, Stealth MXP Passport and
Outbacker MXP products.
